Wave parameters are recorded using a Datawell Directional WaveRider Mk III buoy. The buoy was deployed on 18 January 2013, at which time the magnetic declination at the site was 1.8° west, changing by 0.18° east per year. Wave direction is reported following the nautical convention, meaning that the direction is where the waves come from, measured clockwise from magnetic north.

19/08/2022 Communication with the buoy was lost. A fault with the HF antenna is suspected, the buoy has been recovered to the harbour. The buoy will be redeployed at the earliest opportunity.

29/11/2021 The buoy was located, badly damaged, east of East Pier in Whity. The buoy will be recovered and a replacement buoy deployed at the earliest opportunity. 
27/11/2021 Communication with the buoy was lost in the extreme waves caused by Storm Arwen. Updates to follow.
