« Return to map for other wave, tide and met stations.

Note that these are real-time data and are not quality-controlled. Long-range graphs are plotted from a randomised subsample of half-hourly data.

Additional Information

 Pressure array location  51° 26.080' N  003° 09.887' W
 Meteorological station location  51° 26.089' N  003° 09.889' W

Wave and tide parameters are recorded using a vertical array of Valeport pressure transducers, owned by Vale of Glamorgan Council, who have kindly agreed to make their real-time and archived data freely available to other users via this website.

The instrumentation became operational on 21 March 2017.

Breaks in the data series are when the instrument is dry.

The met station is a Vaisala WXT536 and was first installed on 17 March 2017.

22/04/2024 The bottom pressure transducer was brought back online.
26/01/2024 The bottom pressure transducer was turned off due to issues presented with data transmission.
12/12/2023 The bottom pressure transducer has been replaced and transmission has been restored. The met station was also serviced.
09/11/2023  The tide gauge is offline and awaiting spare parts for repair.
14/12/2022  Data transmission has been repaired. The bottom pressure transducer in the array was damaged during the thunderstorm and has been removed.
07/11/2022  A thunderstorm has created 4G communication issues and interrupted data transmission.
22/02/2021  Unscheduled visit to fully reinstate the meteorological data.
17/12/2020  Tide data has been restored by the introduction of 4G communications.
 Meteorological data to follow soon.
13/10/2020  Data has stopped due loss of power to the shore station.
24/08/2020  Unscheduled visit to repair site. The bottom pressure transducer has been disabled.
09/08/2020  The data has become corrupted, likely due to an issue with the bottom transducer.
23/01/2018  A problem is occuring as waves change sensor, creating a pattner of jumps. Work to resolve the issue were undertaken.
25/03/2017  The instrument's clock reverted to British Summer Time. The clock was set back to Greenwich Mean Time on 30 June 2017.
21/03/2017  The instrument has become operational.
15/03/2017  The instrument has been installed.
