Wave and tide data are measured using a Rosemount WaveRadar Rex, located on Swanage Pier, by kind permission of the Pier owners. The Rex was installed on 7 March 2007.

The OMC meteorological station was installed together with the WaveRadar on 7 March 2007. On 16 July 2024 the meteorological station was overhauled and the original OMC sensors were replaced with a MaxiMet GMX600.

 

16/07/2024 The met station was overhauled, a MaxiMet GMX600 was deployed, replacing the existing OMC met sensors. Scheduled service of the WaveRadar.
16/04/2024 Tide and wave processing software was updated to the latest version.
29/03/2024 The wind speed measurements are flatlining due to a fishing wire being caught in the instrument. The broken instrument will be replaced at the next scheduled service. The wind direction measurements and other parameters are unaffected.

13/12/2022 The major works on the pier have been completed and the WaveRadar has been replaced.
07/11/2022 Connection has been lost to the met station. Update: The connection was restored on 09/11/2022.
26/10/2022 The WaveRadar was removed in advance of further works on the pier. Re-installation is tentatively scheduled for early December 2022.
24/05/2022 The WaveRadar was relevelled. No change in elevation was found following the works on the pier.
17/02/2022 The WaveRadar was removed in advance of works on the pier. Re-installation is planned for May 2022.

04/08/2021 Data transfer is currenlty hindered due to disruption to the local cellular network. 
30/03/2021 A new 4G enabled PC and antenna was installed to avoid future data cable issues. Cabling of the met equipment also replaced. 
02/07/2020 Site visited to investigate data loss and power issues. Problem identified with data cable. 
07/11/2019 Scheduled service and replacement of PC. 
06/06/2019 Site visited to inspect all new cabling and electrical works. 
17/04/2019 Site visited and model swapped out. Data restored. 
14/04/2019 The instrument is currently offline due to an unknown fault. This is being investigated, and will be back online ASAP.
20/03/2019 A new PC monitor was installed and a standard service of the met statoin was carried out. 
18/03/2019 Power to the instrument has been restored.
12/03/2019 A new 350m data cable for the WaveRadar was installed, while an also electrician installed a new power cable. The works were followed by a standard service of the WaveRadar. 
30/01/2019 Site visited to test data cable functionality. 
06/11/2018 Site visited to investigate cabling issue now that power to the pier was restored. 
11/07/2018 Visit to site to diagnose issues. Problems with power and cabling severly damaged during works at the pier. 
26/06/2018 Works on the pier have adversly affected all the data parameters. We are working on bringing the site back online as soon as possible.

13/12/2016 Site visited to continue reattachement of cabling. 
30/11/2016 Site was visited to replace the anemometer and re-attach cable after storm damage. Damage was more extensive then anticipated and more works will be needed. 
28/07/2016 There appears to be a fault with the anemometer on the pier which will be visited as soon as possible to rectify.

13/03/2014 Maintenance works on the pier this morning have caused a gap in the data record of about 2 hours
15/01/2014 Due to a leak near the equipment the power was tripped at 8am yesterday and was restored by 8am today
08/10/2013 Site visited and route replaced. Internet connection was re-established. 
04/10/2013 Data has stopped and could not be remotely re-established.
