Welcome to the page for the Southwest Regional Coastal Monitoring Programme (previously Plymouth Coastal Observatory). The Programme provides a consistent regional approach to coastal process monitoring, providing information of the development of strategic shoreline management plans, coastal defence strategies and operational management of coastal protection and flood defence.

The Programme is managed on behalf of the Coastal Groups, in partnership with the maritime Local Authorities and the Environment Agency. The Programme is funded by Defra, with Teignbridge District Council acting as the lead authority. For further information:

Meet the team at South West Coastal Monitoring

Project Management Team

A team has been set up to oversee the day-to-day management of the Regional Monitoring Programme, and to implement the proposals of the Project Board.

Data Management Team

The team at South West Coastal Monitoring manage all the data collected by the Programme, including topographic and bathymetric survey data, LiDAR, aerial photography and ecological mapping. The team also provides analysis of the data and reports for the maritime Local Authority partners.

Data are fully quality-controlled by South West Coastal Monitoring before being archived and uploaded to the website's Data Catalogue and Map Viewer, where they are freely available to interested parties.
